About Us:

The Macomb Township Professional Firefighters Union Local 5023 is an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union. Our union was established on November 1^st of 2014 and had only 7 members which we call our “Founding Fathers”. After years of challenges, we were able to get to the 31 member roster we have today. Although that seems like a good number, it is significantly lower than national standards. NFPA 1710 specifies a minimum of 17 firefighters on a low hazard initial alarm. Currently, we only have 10 full time firefighters on duty if we are at full staffing for the day. Our mission is to bring Macomb Township proper full time staffing and the best quality care for the safety of our residents and our members.

Support House Bill 4688!

House Bill 4688 makes minimum staffing levels a mandatory subject of bargaining. Currently, we can not discuss staffing levels in negotiations. This bill does not mandate what the staffing will be, but simply allows unions to have the conversation with the city/township officials. With this house bill passed not only would it help our mission of better staffing for Macomb Township, it would also help departments across that state of Michigan!
